Happy Father's Day: The Melody of Memories
Happy Father’s Day.
A friend of mine hoots on the Hallmark holidays – a marketing mess designed to get us to spend money on each other. I get his logic / argument. I am on the fence … gift giving is not my love language, time spent with my crew certainly is!
This morning our family spent some slow and simple Father’s Day time together. I cooked up some country ham, scrambled eggs, biscuits and played some Alan Jackson radio in the background. We watched church, versus going in person, and eased into the day. The kids gave me some gifts … perhaps the most special gift was the handmade card from Emmie. She says I am her bomb pop, lol!
So I suppose, if you peel it back to the idea – honoring others with our creativity, with our heart and soul, then I like a hallmark holiday.
And as I have not written in several months, today, I decided to get back in the habit. I wanted to make a homemade card for my Dad, too.
But instead of pictures, I thought I would try to use a little music to go along with the message.
So, Happy Father’s Day, Heypa. This one is for you.
Funny how a melody sounds like a memory
In Eric Church’s Springsteen, he reminds us that so many of our memories are tied to a song or two. I’ve always loved that line. While the Boss isn’t exactly the soundtrack of my childhood, country music certainly is. It’s the melody behind so many of my memories growing up. And when those songs come on the radio, like the Alan Jackson station today, I am reminded of being back in Mom and Dad’s kitchen, eating breakfast and starting the day.
So I have put together a collection of memories (and melodies) that help tell the story of an amazing dad. Over the next week, I will write about those memories and post them here. One story and one song at at time.
