Chapter 1: The Blueprint
This is my last corporate job.
Whew. I said it. In the age of AI, knowledge work is cooked. I can choose to ignore it or embrace it. In my current role, I choose to embrace it. I choose to build a better company for our employees, so that they can provide a better service to our customers.
@yourlastcorporatejob is intended for everyday people who want to make the choice to embrace this groundswell, AND hopefully, to do it before the proverbial tsunami comes ashore. I choose to:
- Embrace safety technologies already available and those that are coming, so our people can go home safer
- Optimize operations by combining data and economics with machine learning optimizers, so our customers get better service and drivers enjoy better work-life balance
- Build analytics with automation in mind, so we can discern what is best from what is good
Most importantly I choose to create. I do so knowing that the sum of my building and optimizing will ultimately eliminate the knowledge work as I know it now. BUT I will do it with my voice, my empathy, my discernment …
This is Your Last Corporate Job
There. I said that, too. And for many of you, that thought has already crossed your mind — for one reason or another.
Maybe you’re like a friend of mine who retired last week. You’ve finally reached the age where you can ride off into the sunset and greet tomorrow morning on your own terms. This still applies to you!
Someone reading this may be flat-out-burnt-out inside your current corporation, and you’re mulling a change in career paths. And maybe you don’t know how to proceed.
Some of you might be convinced of something far bigger out there — something burning bright inside of you that you must share with the world. Congrats, you may be a step ahead of the rest of us.
But we can all catch up quickly …
This is your last corporate job. But it is not the end of your ability to create.
- We were meant to create.
- We were meant to work together.
- We were meant to build something that matters.
And that’s not just my opinion. It’s been the plan from the very beginning.
The Blueprint
Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
God is the Creator and has been here since the beginning. Genesis demonstrates to us how he took a void and filled it … day and night, heavens and earth, seas and land … all the wonders of His creation. @yourlastcorporatejob acknowledges the beauty of His creation
Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth.’”
God created us in His image and gave us dominion over the earth. We were meant to be creative with what he gave us, to use his creation to the best of our ability, and to ultimately give him glory. That extends to harnessing AI in our current jobs. @yourlastcorporatejob exists to help human beings in the stewardship of AI
Genesis 2:18 “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make a helper fit for him.’”
God planned for a helper for man. We don’t have to go down paths alone. Certainly in the world of AI, or previous worlds of WebMD and Google Search, it is easy to self-medicate, self-treat, self-soothe, etc. BUT, the church exists for a reason. There is simply no substitute for community of like-minded people, going through every-day problems. @yourlastcorporatejob serves people with practical knowledge from practical people
Genesis 2:22 “And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man.”
God created the woman from the man, and he brought her to him. I am amazed by my wife, Laurie. She is my helper. And together, we are very fortunate to have two wonderful children, Trip and Emmie. Together, we use tools to make our lives better – cars to get to school and work, ovens to cook meals, telephones to communicate … and we even use AI in our homes, too. @yourlastcorporatejob would love to help you and your family
The First Email
This morning, I sent the very first email from my @yourlastcorporatejob to my wife, Laurie.
I wanted her to know my intentions right away. She has heard me speak on AI and how it is going to re-shape our world … the world our two children, Trip and Emmie, will have dominion over. A world that will look vastly different from anything we had planned for over the last decade.
I wanted her to see firsthand that the site, just like our home, would be founded on Biblical Truths. And most importantly that we were in this endeavor together. I ended the note:
“And so goes the first email … from God to Man to Woman. Love you.”
